DREAM DEBUT FOR DALTON
PODIUM FOR JAKE IN FIRST BARC RENAULT RACE MEETING
16 Year old Jake dalton made a remarkable debut to his single seater career scoring an impressive podium at the BARC Renault season
opener at Snetterton, Norfolk.
As qualifying commenced, so did the April showers, but despite having never driven a Formula Renault in the wet, the MGR driver amazed everyone by posting 4th fastest time in the first session, a remarkable achievement for his first taste of the Snetterton 200 circuit.
Jake backed this up in the second qualifying session on a drying track, running as high as 3rd before eventually ending up P4,
qualifying on the second row for all 3 races.
In Race 1, Jake’s debut start in a Formula Renault, he dropped two places to 6th, but quickly recovered to 5th and started catching the drivers ahead of him. On lap 2 the leader came off the track and rejoined, running into Jake and damaging the car. Despite difficult handling, Jake brought his MGR car home in a solid 5th place.
Jake made a better start in Race 2, coming out of turn 1 in 5th, which he held until lap 3 when the safety car came out following a collision. A frantic restart saw Jake go for an opportunity up the inside of 2 cars, but one turned in on him, damaging the car and forcing Jake to retire.
Race 3 was held in wet conditions, which, despite his inexperience, suited Jake, who made a great start to slot straight into 3rd, which he held all the way to the flag for a superb podium. Speaking after the race Jake commented, “I’m very happy with the result. Obviously its been a steep learning curve for me as its only my second competitive race in a single seater, I’d like to thank MGR, SSM, iZone and Elite for helping me achieve a podium on my Formula Renault debut weekend.”
